BioDiversity

Basic information about the BioDiversity module

The BioDiversity module was developed in 2020 in partnership between GLOBALG.A.P. and the retail chain Lidl to raise awareness among Food Manufacturers about caring for the environment.

The BioDiversity add-on provides the basis for a farm-level audit, supporting manufacturers in demonstrating biodiversity management practices to retailers and traders. Supply chain stakeholders, in turn, can require suppliers to conduct such an audit to support their corporate social responsibility commitments.

The audit is designed to complement the GLOBALG.A.P. standard. (IFA) and covers key areas such as soil and nutrient management, land restoration measures and integrated pest management.

The purpose of the add-on is to monitor and protect key on-farm biodiversity indicators, raise awareness and provide guidance in developing a comprehensive biodiversity action plan.

The scope of requirements of the BioDiversity add-on includes:

  • an on-farm biodiversity action plan
  • access to on-farm biodiversity training
  • synergies off-farm
  • biodiversity conservation measures
  • integrated pest control
  • soil and nutrient management plan
  • wastewater management and water source protection

In the first year, producers are required to develop a biodiversity action plan, which outlines measures to be implemented over a given period of time.
